Hello everyone! Welcome back to this week’s blog!
Apologies, I missed last week I took a short break but weekly blogs are resuming from today! This week’s topic is about the evolution of Internet technologies, specifically from Web 1.0 to 3.0. I think you can all agree that there has been a major evolution of internet technologies over the last two decades. The World Wide Web is the key tool used by billions of people to distribute information, read and create it, and connect with others over the internet. The web is often classified into three stages: Web 1.0, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0
Web 1.0
Web 1.0 was the very first version of the internet. The majority of participants were content consumers, and the creators were mostly web developers who produced websites with predominantly textual or visual content. Web 1.0 existed between approximately 1991 and 2004.
Web 2.0
Web 2.0 the one we most commonly know is an interactive read-write web and the social web. You don’t have to be a developer to participate in the Web 2.0 creation process. Many applications are built in such a manner that anybody can create content. Web 2.0 apps include YouTube, Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms.
Web 3.0
This is the latest Web iteration also known as Web 3, it still has a way to go before it reaches full realisation. It's a semantic web, where the web technology evolves into a tool that lets users create, share, and connect content via search and analysis. It is based on comprehension of words instead of numbers and keywords. It incorporates Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I found a very interesting video on YouTube that explains Web 3.0 very well with animations, here is the link - watch.
Thank you so much for tuning in this week. I hope you learnt something useful about the World Wide Web, I find it quite fascinating. Comment below if you remember Web 1.0🤪
