8. Cybersecurity for Small Businesses

What is the Prerequisite To Learn Cyber Security?

Hey Everyone! Welcome back to this week's final blog! I will really miss interacting with all of you each week😓

Cybersecurity is crucial for every single business no matter how big or small. We discussed the importance of it in class as we have seen the effects of a cyber-attack in college over the last week and it’s not fun let me tell you. Whether you are thinking of adopting cloud computing or just using email and maintaining a website, cybersecurity should be a key factor in the implementation and future plan. See the five tips below to minimise the risk of your small business being targeted by a cyber-attack.

1.    Implement a cyber security awareness training programme – these programmes are specifically designed to educate and train employees on how to avoid making common mistakes that can result in a cybersecurity incident.

2.    Enable and enforce multi-factor authentication – enabling this provides each account with an added layer of security by requiring an employee to confirm their identity before they can access their account.

3.    Implement an Incident Response Plan (IRP) – understanding how and to be in a position to rapidly respond to a cybersecurity incident is key for any business.

4.    Ensure all devices are encrypted and secure Wi-Fi networks – ensuring all of your devices are encrypted is essential to your data security and limiting the chance of a data breach.

5.    Develop a Cybersecurity Strategy – this significantly impacts threat intelligence by enhancing an organisations ability to detect, analyse and respond to cyberthreats effectively.
